How to shed those festive kilos
It is no surprise that most of us like to overindulge during the December holiday. Who can blame us when we are presented with gammon, roasts, pumpkin pie, fruit cake, peach cobbler, truffles and everything else delectable in a matter of one week.
The festive season is a time to be merry and eat hearty but now January 2016 has arrived in a blink of an eye and we are stuck with some extra unwanted weight. How to shed them? Here are a few tips to shake yourself into a new, healthier you before winter come again.
Set your weight loss goal
Losing weight is much easier when you have a set goal to work towards. Maybe you want to lose 3 kilos or even 10 kilos. Write it down and keep a record of how much you have lost each week. It will also help if there is a reward waiting for you on the other side. Buy yourself a new outfit or those shoes you have been eyeing a while.
What with all the photoshopping tools out there, you can take a picture of yourself at the moment and then create your own before and after shots by slimming yourself down in the photo to your ideal body shape. Stick your before and after pictures somewhere where you can look at it and be reminded of how you could look and are going to look in a month or two. This will help you stay motivated.
Argh! Always with the exercising, right? I don’t have time. I can’t afford a gym membership. I don’t have the right equipment… Let’s face the facts; it is a great way to speed up the weight loss process and to gain your desired body shape. You’ll feel more energised; have lowered blood pressure and sugar levels, lowered stress and cholesterol. The advantages are legion.
Exercise is a thing that most people face with disdain and take on half heartedly in the first two weeks and then give up on. That’s only because you haven’t found exercise that excites you. You don’t necessarily have to go jogging 2 kilometres every morning at 4am or do 100 sit ups and push ups.
Dancing is an excellent and fun way to learn a new skill and to lose weight. Zumba is a form of exercise dancing that has taken the world by storm. If you don’t like dancing, why not try karate, krav maga or kickboxing lessons? You’ll drop weight, gain strength and learn to defend yourself as a bonus!
Point is, don’t force yourself into doing something that is not fun. Even something as simple as swimming a few laps will help you achieve your weight loss goal. Just take some time and choose something you’ll enjoy.
The main cause of your gained weight is most probably eating too large portions. Consult a nutritionist and follow an approved diet. Just eliminating sugar and takeaways will do wonders in the long run. The key is to stay strong and stick with it. Do not be impatient and start fasting or drinking harmful pills, this is very detrimental to your health.
